Dear Wendy, I caught out a medium recently who I know from work where people pay him for readings. He is always telling people what his Red Indian spirit guide tells him about them. He showed me a sketch of his spirit guide. I asked him if I could take a photocopy of it, and he said it was OK and I asked him what tribe the spirit guide was from and he said ‘Cree Indian’. When I sent the picture to someone who is an expert, she said the picture did not look like an authentic native American tribal leader and was definitely not ‘Cree’. I have told people at work about this and he has started a hate campaign against me. What should I do? PJ.
Dear PJ, Let me explain to you about how mediumship works. Spirits are attracted to us because there is something in common with our disposition. This might be, for instance, because we are kind and therefore we attract a loving spirit to be our closest spiritual companion or because we want to make money and this desire attracts a spirit that helps us to do this. The spirit guide is always on our spiritual level. It sounds, to me, as though this is not a well educated medium (he speaks about ‘Indians’, and they rarely refer to themselves by this undignified colonial term) and therefore his spirit guides will also not be educated. If the picture of his spirit guide is not correct in some way would also make me think perhaps his message would also be inaccurate. If you have stated your concerns clearly, this is all you need to do within your conscience. You have spoken your truth. Now it is up to those who seek this medium’s guidance to decide for themselves. They are adults and have the right to pay him if they so wish. People learn in different ways in their own time and you cannot rush that process without alienating yourself.
