Jane Meredith is a Priestess of the Goddess. She is Australian and facilitates international workshops on Goddess mythology, rituals and transformation. Jane also reads and teaches Tarot and is a registered Marriage Celebrant who can perform legal weddings, hand-fastings, namings and other personal ceremonies.
Jane's previous book "Aphrodite's Magic: Celebrate and Heal your Sexuality" was published in March 2010, and she has had several articles and a teen novel published.
"Journey to the Dark Goddess" explains that many of us meet the Dark Goddess when we are in deepest despair and are not prepared. As we come face to face with Her, whatever we have is stripped away so that we are connect to the core of our life. This is the turning point for re-birth; transformation and ascension.
The Dark Goddess is inspirational and integrates wisdom into our lives. She is the caretaker of our soul journey and is always present.
Jane guides us to willingly journey into the Underworld in an endeavour to meet with The Dark Goddess and take a close look at our shadow self to see the truth of our upper world life. This is not necessarily achieved in one journey but can be a periodic and continual occurrence which will release the parts of our lives which no longer serve us.
Jane explains that when we visit the Underworld, we stop and listen to ourselves and see what is not working, what makes us unwell, unhappy or holds us back. We must be prepared to change and release everything in order to rise refreshed, to develop, grow and reach maturity.
Once we reach our turning point, we experience acceptance and gratitude, rather than grieve for what has been lost or left behind during our descent.
Personally, the book resonated with my own experiences and my connection with the Egyptian Goddesses, particularly Sekhmet and Isis. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and appreciated Jane's honesty and openness regarding her own experiences with the Goddess.
Jane uses myths of descent, such as the stories of Inanna, Persephone and Psyche, as examples to help us focus and understand how to make our descent and then the ascent; and to teach us balance.
The book is set in four parts; one for each stage of the journey, with rituals and exercises which enable exploration in individual journeys which reclaim personal power.
The rituals and exercises are taught and explained very clearly with sensible tips for safety. Jane also gives excellent creative examples of ideas and suggestions for recording the experiences.
Jane is a very wise, compassionate and experienced guide. This is an inspiring and transformational book.
