Recently I have found that I am in a position where I actually own very little. It occurs to me that our society is built on the importance of having things, buying things with credit now, if they cannot be afforded, and collecting stuff, owning it and then getting new stuff.
It's a material world.
But with that comes responsibility; you have to insure your stuff in case someone else steals it or damages it and we have witnessed a spiralling out of control for the never ending need to shore up our sense of worth or value by the accumulation of things. Now the world is suffering, not only on a level that threatens our natural resources, but also in creating an imbalance, so that the feelings of envy and jealousy surpass those expressions of love and sharing.
I don't know about anyone else, but I have been developing a kind of frugal way of living and yes, recycling is part of that, but also there's a need to tread a little lighter, and leave less of an impact that could add to the imbalance.
I now don't have a garden as such, but I have the ability to enjoy everyone else's as I walk by, to marvel at the gorgeous flowers and plants that someone else has to tend, and it really is beginning to make sense to me that owning the unownable is what drives our never ending to desire to get more cash, and spend more of our leisure hours shopping.
This year, astrologically speaking, Pluto, planet of change and transformation moves into the sign of Capricorn. Pluto has a way of completely undermining what we hold dear and in Capricorn we are looking at traditional values, business, and a society built on consumerism. We have seen the very core of our financial establishments rocked by the credit squeeze and some people are now struggling with increasing debt and the fear and helplessness that this engenders. The fear element is associated with Saturn, planet of limitation and boundaries and in a balanced way, is necessary for grounding us. But we are on an evolutionary journey and we are here at this time for a reason. For those caught up in this, letting go of what you possess, or what possesses you can be a process of liberation and freedom, with a new understanding of what self worth and self value can really mean. You are you, not what you have or own.
